Sure.. who can't, and how many sites have them, and are completely pointless. TONS

So why do I have a post about them? Well, cause I have been working on a forum system n I figured to test it it should be used, but I am not fussed if it is. Besides, if your reading this but don't have an account with unpointless you won't even be able to see it, let alone use it.

But never fear, the invitation system is planned to be ready soon, so maybe you might get invited by an already existing member.

K1O9S2S OUT!
New Project, Hopefully it wont ever become a project that only I'm taking on, making a game with 2 mates, though I won't say much more other then... It will kick ass!

In about a week a prototype version (though to be honest already got one going) will be released along with more game details.
Thought I'd drop a note about Area 51, Yes, how original. You will find my personal NOT COMPLETE, or not complete enough bits and pieces to be anywhere else. There are 3 things up there at the moment.

Open realms, read this. Qubed, a content management system, basic entry level grade, but with some nicely written and fast code. Made for fun really. Tiny Framework, just what it is, a tiny bunch of useful classes, with examples on they are used. More based for the entry level PHP'er.

All are work in progress, and there are bound to be more things I'll put in there that aren't due for completion any time soon, and/or are interesting to me, also if some of these proof of concepts make some interest I'll continue more work on them.

Alrighty then, Enjoy.
Not too long ago, about 5 minutes in fact, I found out that our web host(dreamhost) has decided to turn over a green leaf and become carbon neutral. I guess that's pretty cool, cause now we have a whole string of sites green hosted. And hey, I can now say my site doesn't harm the environment... much.

I'm also all for renewable resources because with out a doubt with in 50 odd years the world will have to rely on renewable resources as we can't keep up our fossil fuel based energy usage with the amount remaining.

Salting passwords for online services.

What is salting: Salting is adding random bits of data to a password hash.

How salting protects passwords – If a attacker managers to gets a users password hash for a online service by whatever means (maybe stolen from a users cookie or a 'man in the middle attack') they have a difficult time cracking that password using the following types of attacks.

Dictionary: A dictionary attack is iterating through a list of words in a 'word dictionary'. Each word is then hashed and the hash based on the dictionary word is compared against the stolen harsh. If they match that is the password.

Now when salt is generated its random. Now theres no way 3F6AA7234565BCPassword is any kind of dictionary right? 3F6AA7234565BC being the random salt and 'Password' being the users chosen password.

The other day I was thinking about the different types of gamers out there in the world, and there truly is a huge range, from simulator players to crazed Sony fan boys. However I'm more interested in the lores of a respectable gamer.

At one stage or another we have pretty much all played online games, and undoubtedly you have come across the general smart ass, I'm better then you, this is my life, kind of gamer. The worst kind. Whose world resides in getting head shots, or binking your entire army in some real time strategy game, or maybe just spending those extra pointless hours in World of Warcraft to get some rare item. Also their remarks generally reside of "WTF, BS", "ZOMG, HAX", and of course "PWNED", when owned themselves or they manage to get in decent game play, respectively.

In my usual little sessions with StumbleUpon, I've recently come across two useful tools, one for making a quick activity indication image and the other one generates stripes, both very useful.

Enjoy, I did.
